Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Rancho Cucamonga, CA-- The High Desert Mavericks needed extras on Saturday night, as they came from behind for a 5-3 win over the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes in ten innings at LoanMart Field.
Kevin Torres delivered a two-run double in the top of the tenth, giving High Desert their first lead of the game and sending Rancho Cucamonga to their third straight loss.
David Reid-Foley entered the game in the top half of the tenth inning and walked the lead-off man to immediately get into trouble. After a one-out single by Jose Trevino put runners at first and third, David Lyon struck out for the second out of the inning. Torres came through with the game-winner though, as he rifled a Reid-Foley (0-1) pitch to right field to plate a pair and give the Mavs the 5-3 advantage.
Rancho's Matt Beaty was hit by a pitch to open the last of the tenth, but the next three hitters all went in order against Mavs' reliever Cody Palmquist, who notched his fourth save of the year.
Rancho jumped to the lead in the first, as Noah Perio homered to open the scorin. Perio's first in a Quakes' uniform made it 1-0 against Mavs' starter Jeffrey Springs.
Beaty smacked a two-run blast in the third, his seventh of the year, as he went deep with Perio aboard for a 3-0 Rancho advantage.
Quakes' starter Josh Sborz was solid through five innings, but gave up a two-out two-run double to Trevino in the sixth, making it a one-run game at 3-2.
Sborz's bid for a ninth win was nullified by the Mavs in the eighth, as they tallied a run against reliever Yaisel Sierra to tie the game at 3-3. Luke Tendler's RBI double plated Josh Morgan to pull the Mavs even.
The Quakes had a shot to end it in the last of the ninth, but Perio grounded out with two on to send the game to extras against eventual winner Austin Pettibone (1-2).
Rancho (19-17, 61-45) will finish the seven-game home stand on Sunday afternoon at 2:05pm. Rancho will go with Grant Holmes (8-3) in the finale, while the Mavs will counter with Reed Garrett (0-0).
Sunday is Team Photo Giveaway, as 1,500 fans through the gates will receive a free 2016 Quakes Team Photo, thanks to Millennium Systems. Game time is 2:05pm and tickets are available by calling (909) 481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com. We hope to see you at LoanMart Field very soon ... Go Quakes!
