Florida Everblades News Release
ESTERO, FL - The Florida Everblades announced Tuesday that the Tampa Bay Lightning have reassigned goaltender Allen York to the Everblades from the Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League. In addition, defenseman Mike Cornell has returned to the Everblades on loan from the Charlotte Checkers (AHL).
York, 25, rejoins the Everblades after posting a 2-3-1 record, a 3.26 goals against average, and a 0.895 save percentage in eight appearances with the Crunch this season. York has also recorded a 16-4-3 record, with a 2.64 goals against average, a .903 save percentage, and four shutouts this season with Florida. On February 23, York was signed to a two-way NHL contract for this season by the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Last season, York registered a 4-4-2 record, a 2.65 goals against average, and a .912 save percentage in 12 AHL appearances last season split between stints with the Charlotte Checkers, Rockford IceHogs, Texas Stars, and Syracuse Crunch.
The 6-3, 194-pound netminder made 11 National Hockey League appearances with the Columbus Blue Jackets during the 2010-11 season netting a 3-2 record, 2.30 goals against average, and a .919 save percentage. York was selected by Columbus in the sixth round of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.
Cornell, 27, returns to the 'Blades after logging five points (1g, 4a) and 76 penalty minutes in 18 games with the Checkers during his recent AHL call up. Cornell has 11 points (3g, 8a) with 141 penalty minutes in 44 AHL appearances this season split between Springfield, St. John's, and Charlotte. The 5-11 190-pound blueliner has posted (1g, 4a) and a minus-3 rating in 14 games played with the 'Blades this season.
Last season, Cornell appeared in 35 games with Bridgeport (AHL) recording ten points (4g, 6a) and 78 penalty minutes. The Frankilin Massachusetts native came to the 'Blades late in the 2012-13 season after wrapping up a decorated four-year career at the University of Maine that saw the defender post six goals and 24 assists with a lifetime plus-7 rating.
As a result of these transactions, the Everblades have released goaltender Andy Iles and forward Mark McGowan.
