Closing a Decade of FANtastic Fun

From our first ever signed player Jake Moreland to our newest signing Carter Rigby, there have been a number of players and moments that has defined the last decade of hockey in the Central Valley.

Fans remember the greats like Mike Lalonde, Nathan Martz and of course Garet Hunt and Ryan Constant. They remember our first player ever recalled to the NHL (Bryan Young) and the newest player to join that elite group of 11 players to play for the Thunder and make their NHL debut (Tyler Bunz).

You remember the goals, the fights, the Pink Weekends, the good, the bad, and of course the good friends you have made while learning and then loving our sport.

After tonight's game there are just three Thunder games left with two coming on the road in Bakersfield and a conclusion of 10 years on April 11 at Stockton Arena. Don't miss your chance to say goodbye to the ECHL and the Thunder before we celebrate the next era of hockey in Stockton coming Fall 2015.

Shattock is on Fire

Tyler Shattock has been one of the best players in the ECHL over the last two months.

Shattock has scored 13 goals and added 17 assists in 25 games thus far since February began. Of the 25 games, Shattock has points in 20 of them, missing out on just 5 games.

His 59 points this season has obliterated his previous pro high of 20 points that he picked up while playing for the Chicago Wolves of the AHL last season. After his five-game point streak ended on Wednesday, March 25, Shattock has picked up right where he left off and finds himself on another four-game point streak (2-4-6).

Last Time vs. Bakersfield

The Thunder didn't take long to get on top as Vinny Scarsella scored less than a minute and a half into the game. Adam Phillips added one in the second but Bako came back to tie things up just past the midway mark when Mike Pereira found a loose puck to put the Thunder on top. It would be short-lived as Austin Block tied things up to end 40 minutes of play knotted up at three.

Scarsella added his second of the game in the third on a power play to give the Thunder the 4-3 win.

Tonight

The Thunder have their biggest rival as the only team left on their schedule as the two teams meet in Bakersfield tonight and Friday before concluding the season in Stockton on Saturday. The Thunder hold a 7-5-0-0 record in 12 previous meetings.

Who to Watch

After their performances in their first ever games, let's go with watching the three newest members of the team!

Carter Rigby, Kyle Brodie and Garrett Ladd all registered points in their debuts last Saturday against the Ontario Reign with Rigby and Brodie earning their first assists of their pro career and Ladd scoring his first goal of his pro career late in the game.

The trio impressed after the nerves from early on settled down and played pretty solid games in their first pro appearance. Rigby threw his body around a couple times to connect with a few big hits and made himself a nuisance around the net.

Brodie started a little tentative but once Adam Phillips went down with an injury the defenseman settled in after getting a ton of minutes from Coach Kromm and played a very steady two-way game.

Ladd really impressed us with his quickness and ability to bounce back after a big hit. Despite his size at 5'10=1B$B!m=1B(B, Ladd was able to win a number of impressive puck battles and showcased his offensive ability with a number of early shots that whizzed just wide. Truthfully, Ladd probably had the most quality chances to score on anyone except for maybe Tyler Shattock in the game. We saw him finish off one of those chances thanks to some terrific puck moving by Vinny Scarsella and Shattock for the UW-Stevens Point man's first professional goal.

All-Time Greatest

Garet Hunt has done it, the longtime Thunder forward playing in his seventh season became the team's all-time leading scorer after a goal last night against Troy Redmann.

With the goal Garet breaks a two-way tie at the top with former Thunder forward Mike Lalonde and sets a new team record of 157 points.

Garet does have one more record to try and chase down as Lalonde still holds the all-time Thunder goals record of 72. Hunt's season goal total is now up to 12 meaning he is just 9 goals away from tying Lalonde's mark.

Hunt is now the franchise leader in games played (438), points (157), penalty minutes (1638) and ranks third all-time in assists (94) behind Ryan Constant (110) and Nathan Martz (97).

Interesting Fact

James Henry's 77 points ranks him 7th on the Thunder's all-time points list and his 134 games ties him with Mike Little for 7th all-time.
