All-Star Sertich Re-Signs With Utah
August 21, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Utah Grizzlies News Release
West Valley City, Utah - Utah Grizzlies Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Jason Christie announced today that 2007 ECHL All-Star Andy Sertich has re-signed with the team and will begin his third season in Utah this fall. Sertich joins Ryan Kinasewich as the second player announced by Utah for the 2008-2009 season.
The Grizzlies are proud to be the ECHL affiliate of the New York Islanders and their AHL affiliate in Bridgeport.
Sertich split last year between Utah and Bridgeport after leading the Grizzlies with 40 assists as their second-leading scorer behind Kinasewich during the 2006-2007 season.
"Andy will once again anchor our power-play unit and be one of our top defensemen," said Christie. "He earned his call-up in Bridgeport last year with hard work and dedication and we were disappointed an injury kept him from contributing for us last year during the playoff run."
"I've enjoyed the last year and a half in Utah," said Sertich. "I'm obviously always looking to take my next step in hockey, but as long as I'm at this level, this is where I want to be. It was disappointing not being able to be part of the Grizzlies playoff run last year, I was trying to get back. This year, we already have Kinasewich signed and will be announcing more exciting players as we build for another run."
The Grizzlies open the 2008-2009 season Saturday, October 18 at Idaho. The home opening weekend for Utah is Friday and Saturday October 24 and 25 versus Alaska at the E-Center.
The Utah Grizzlies, of the ECHL, celebrate their 15th anniversary season in 2008-2009. Owned and operated by the Elmore Sports Group, the Grizzlies enter their second season and sixth overall as an affiliate of the New York Islanders. Utah resident Jason Christie begins his fourth season as Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations for the club, which advanced to the National Conference Finals in 2007-2008. The Grizzlies play all home games at the E-Center of West Valley City, which hosted hockey during the 2002 Winter Olympics.
