New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release

Manchester, NH- 2B Edgardo Alfonzo was called up to the Toronto Blue Jays today, just three days after joining the Double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats. Also, 3B Eric Arnold was placed on the disabled list yesterday with a sinus infection retroactive to May 24.

The 32-year-old Alfonzo was signed by the Blue Jays as a Minor League free agent on May 25 after being released by the Los Angeles Angels. He was assigned to the Fisher Cats and played in each of their past three games, going 0-for-8 with two walks. He made his Fisher Cats debut Friday night against the Harrisburg Senators, entering midway through the game as a pinch hitter and remaining in as the second baseman. Saturday he was the starting second baseman and was replaced with a pinch runner after reaching on a fielder's choice late in the game. Yesterday, he played the entire game as New Hampshire's second baseman. He becomes the 13th player to reach the Major Leagues after playing with the Fisher Cats and the second player to play in the Major Leagues both before and after playing in New Hampshire. RHP Kevin Frederick is the other player to accomplish the feat.

The 25-year-old Arnold was placed on the disabled list yesterday when the Fisher Cats added RHP Connor Falkenbach from Single-A Dunedin. His placement on the disabled list is retroactive to May 24. He had missed the past three games with a sinus infection. So far this season he is hitting .215 with four home runs and 17 RBI, including a franchise record seven RBI in a single game May 22 against the Connecticut Defenders at Dodd Stadium. He was originally selected by the Blue Jays in the 10th round of 2002 draft out of Rice University. The Fisher Cats roster now stands at 22 active players, one short of the maximum.

The Fisher Cats wrap up their Memorial Day homestand tonight at 6:35 PM against the Harrisburg Senators (Nationals). For tickets or information call (603) 641-2005 or visit nhfishercats.com.
