Albuquerque Loses, 18-9, for Eighth-Straight Defeat

Albuquerque, NM - The Space Cowboys tallied a run in seven of nine innings, including scoring four runs in three frames, while connecting on five homers for an 18-9 win over Albuquerque Saturday night at Rio Grande Credit Union Field at Isotopes Park.

Topes Scope: - With the loss, the Isotopes have dropped a season-high eight-straight and 11 of 12. The club hasn't lost nine-plus games in-a-row since losing a franchise record 13-straight from June 17-30, 2016.

-Albuquerque is 2-12 overall, the worst start in franchise history through 14 games.

-The Isotopes need a win in tomorrow's contest to avoid a six-game sweep, which would be the club's third and the 11th in the Pacific Coast League since the circuit moved to six-game sets in 2021.

-Albuquerque has not held a lead in a game since a 2-1 advantage in the of top 8th inning April 6 vs. Oklahoma City (55 innings).

-Albuquerque has lost 14 of its last 16 meetings against the Space Cowboys, including 10-straight at home (last win at Isotopes park: June 6, 2023, the longest losing streak to a single opponent in club history.

-Jordan Beck belted a leadoff homer on a 1-0 count in the first, the club's first game-opening clout since Yonathan Daza May 16, 2023, vs. Tacoma.

-The Isotopes allowed four runs in the second, fourth and ninth innings. On the year, the club has relented at least four runs in a frame 13 times in 121 innings in 2024.

-Pedro Leon swatted a grand slam in the ninth inning, the fourth slam allowed by the Isotopes this season and second of the series (last: Joey Loperfido, April 12). It's also the 10th overall slam surrendered to Sugar Land.

-Albuquerque has allowed double-digit runs in four of the five games (64 runs relented in the series) and six contests on the year.

-The Isotopes pitching staff has allowed 13 homers in last three games.

-Albuquerque has surrendered double-digit hits in four-straight games for the first time since Sept. 7-10, 2023, vs. Reno.

-Of the 17 batted balls registered at 100 MPH-plus, the Isotopes recorded seven of them. Hunter Goodman 's sixth-inning single was the third-hardest hit ball of the night: 106.9 MPH. Goodman and Jordan Beck each tallied two batted balls over 100-MPH.

-Beck collected his second three-hit game of the year (also: March 31 vs. El Paso) while belting his fourth homer, swiping his first stolen base of the year and driving in three runs. He has reached base in all 12 games in 2024 and extended his overall on-base streak to 33 games (since Aug. 18, 2023, with Double-A Hartford).

-Sam Hilliard connected on his sixth multi-hit contest of the season and fourth in his last five games.

-Hunter Goodman ended a 0-for-8 slump with two singles, his fourth multi-hit game of the season.

-Willie MacIver struck out four times on the night, the most by an Isotope hitter this season. It also matched a career-high set once before (last: July 4, 2022, Double-A Hartford).

-Aaron Schunk drive in two runs for the second time this season (also: April 10 vs. Sugar Land). He has a hit in three-straight games (4x11).

-Drew Romo collected a season-high three hits, all singles (las three-hit game: Sept. 7, 2023, Double-A Hartford). He had just three three-hit games in all of 2023.

On Deck: The Isotopes and Space Cowboys meet for the series finale tomorrow at 1:35 pm MT at Isotopes Park. Albuquerque is expected to send right-hander Noah Davis to the hill while Sugar Land is slated to start Blair Henley. Sunday is also the Isotopes Jackie Robinson Celebration. The club will hold a Pre-Game ceremony honoring University of New Mexico basketball legend Pete Gibson as the 2024 Jackie Robinson Making a Difference award winner. The first 1,500 fans will also receive a commemorative Jackie Robinson hat.
