Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
Albuquerque, NM - The long ball once again bit the Albuquerque Isotopes on Monday night, as they surrendered three solo homers in a 5-3 loss to the Round Rock Express in the series opener at Dell Diamond. Albuquerque has dropped four of their last five ballgames. The contest started out well enough for the Isotopes as Carlos Pérez blasted a two-out solo homer to left in the first inning for a 1-0 lead, his 16th long ball of the season and fourth in his last five games. Right-hander Corey Oswalt drew the starting assignment for Albuquerque in his Rockies organizational debut, after being acquired from Philadelphia yesterday. Oswalt retired the side in order in the first, but relented home runs to Sam Huff and Elier Hernandez in the second as Round Rock went in front. The Express plated another run in the third before Sam Hilliard crossed the plate on a wild pitch in the fourth, cutting Round Rock's lead to 3-2. However, the hosts immediately plated a pair off Matt Dennis in the fourth via Disobel Arias solo home run and Steele Walker RBI single. D.J. Peterson led off the fifth with a double for the Isotopes before scoring on an RBI groundout by Dom Nuñez. Albuquerque's offense was silent the rest of the game as they did not record a hit after the fifth. Former Isotope Jesus Tinoco walked Alan Trejo to start the ninth, but then got a double play grounder and a groundout to second, recording the save.
