The Albany Dutchmen took an early lead and never looked back in the first game of Tuesday's double header in Newark.
In the top of the second, the Dutchmen plated all three of their runs to go up 3-1. Albany hit four consecutive singles to start the inning. Joey Boney (Cypress) drove in his team's first run to tie the game 1-1. Ryan Van Amburg (Pepperdine) gave Albany the lead after scoring on a passed ball. Brandon Trinkwon (UC Santa Barbara) knocked a RBI single into left field, allowing Boney to make it home safely for the two-run lead.
Newark starter Jim Glasgow (Lewis) was relieved by Kegan Banks (Blinn) at the start of third, and Alex Flores (Ohlone) pitched the final two innings. Both combined for five scoreless innings, allowing just two hits.
The Pilots cut the deficit to one run in the fifth. Michael Bolling (Lewis) was hit by a Steven Poche (Southeastern Louisiana) pitch in the first at-bat of the frame. He advanced to second on an error, then to third on a fly out. A second error by the Dutchmen allowed batter Ray Delvalle (Kentucky Wesleyan) to reach first and Bolling to score Newark's second run of the game. Poche finished off the sixth on the mound, collecting six strikeouts in his second win of the season. Zach Robinson (Miami) earned the save with a one-hit seventh. Trinkwon led Albany with two hits and one RBI.
Glasgow was tagged with his third loss, allowing all three runs in two innings pitched. Matt Vera (San Joaquin Delta) had a team-high two hits in Game 1.
