Pioneers Snap Five Game Slide with 8-6 Victory

July 12, 2011 - Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League (PGCBL) - Elmira Pioneers News Release

The Elmira Pioneers entered play Tuesday night with a 13-13 mark while looking to pick of a victory. The Pioneers would wipe away an early Glens Falls lead in the first when B.J Willis (Southern Indiana) connected on his first long ball of the season. The Pioneers would jump out to a 5-1 lead in the second as Ryan Normoyle (Washington MD.) would drive in two runners with a single into right field.

The Golden Eagles would not be done with their scoring on the night as they would battle back to tie the game at 5-5 in the third inning highlighted by a David Olson (Tacoma C.C.) RBI double. The five run outburst would chase Elmira starter Mat Niedzwiecki (Manchester C.C) from the game.The Pioneers would regain the lead in the fourth inning as Willis drove in his second run of the night to put Elmira on top 6-5. Pat Hyde (Northern Kentucky) would give Elmira their final run support on the night as he drove in a run with a single down the left field line to make it an 8-6 ballgame.

Adam Davis (St. John's) pitched five spectacular innings of relief allowing one unearned run to score while allowing just one hit. Davis picked up his third win of the season while Wes McBride (UNC-Greensboro) picked up his fourth save of the season. Antwan Brown (Santa Fe) lost his first tilt of the season allowing three runs on three hits. The Win moves Elmira to 14-13 on the season and drops Glens Falls to 15-11 on the season.
