Elmira Pioneers News Release
After giving up a single and a walk, Taylor Ahearn (Cal State San Marcos) was hit by a line drive on the next at bat. RailRider coach Dan Schwam elected to send the runner around to score after the play was not ruled dead by the umpires. Ahearn's night would end with runners on first and third in which Danny Madden (St. Bonaventure) would take his place to complete the inning. A sacrifice fly would bring the score 2-0 after the first inning.
The RailRiders took advantage of a couple of Elmira errors to take an 8-0 lead, scoring 4 runs in the second and two runs in the third.
The Pioneers bat came alive in the bottom of the fourth. After Phil Madonna got the Pio's on the board with a RBI double, Blake Buckman (U. of Louisiana at Monroe) would hit a RBI single and a couple of wild pitches would Brian Kelly (Siena) and Buckman to cut Victor's lead in half 8-4.
The RailRiders would tack on two runs in the top of the sixth to hold off the Pioneers for the final score of 10-4.
Taylor Ahearn would receive the loss giving up the two runs in the first inning. RailRider Eoin McAvinchey (Saint Leo University) receives the win for Victor.
