Elmira Defeats Geneva, 6-5

July 30, 2016 - Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League (PGCBL)
Elmira Pioneers News Release

After winning the Regular Season West Division Title, the Pioneers did not rest as they would look to defeat the Geneva Red Wings to complete the series sweep.

The Red Wings would strike first in the third inning to take the lead 1-0.

With bases loaded in the bottom of the fourth, Brian Kelly (Siena) hit a booming triple at the right center gap to give Elmira a 3-1 lead.

The Pio's would pad the lead in the next three innings thanks to a RBI groundout from Rob Perteet (Samford) in the fifth and a RBI single from Kelly in the seventh.

The Red Wings were able to rally four runs off of reliever Cody Thompson (Randolph-Macon) to tie the game 5-5.

It took an extra inning of work but after Red Wing Patrick Connor (Monroe C.C.) hit two batters and walked one two load the bases with two outs in the inning, Troy Dixon (Samford) would hit a routine ground ball to Jordan Wiley (Kalamazoo) that would go under his legs. That would allow Blake Buckman (U. of Lousiana at Monroe) to score and give the Pio's the 6-5 victory in walk off fashion.

Cody Thompson gets the win while Red Wing Patrick Connor receives the loss. Marc Galvan would receive a no decision pitching six innings of work allowing one unearned run, striking out one and giving up two hits.

The Pioneers will finish the regular season against the Adirondack TrailBlazers at home tomorrow at 5:05 p.m.
