
Albany Conquest look to make it three in a row

Albany, N.Y., May 20, 2004 -- The Albany Conquest, winners of their last two games, will look to make it three in a row when they meet the Macon Knights at 7 p.m. on Saturday at the Pepsi Arena in Albany, N.Y. The game will be a homecoming for new head coach Rick Buffington, who coached the Albany Firebirds at the Pepsi Arena from 1990 to 1993.
The Albany Conquest and the Macon Knights have identical 2-4 records. The Conquest earned a thrilling 60-56 win last week against the Louisville Fire under Coach Buffington. In Albany's first six games, they have faced teams' that have a combined record of 22-13 during the 2004 season.
In the one time the two teams' have met, the Macon Knights defeated the Albany Conquest, 59-47, in the second-round of the ArenaCup playoffs last season at Pepsi Arena on August 9, 2003. The Knights advanced to the ArenaCup League Championship Game last season before falling to the Tulsa Talons, 58-40, on August 23.
D. Bryant, since taking over at starting QB for the Conquest two weeks ago, has led Albany to two straight wins. He is 38-of-65 passing for 651 yards, 11 touchdowns and just one interception this season. His only interception came in relief in a Conquest 47-34 loss to Manchester Wolves in week 3 of the af2 season. Bryant, playing in three games, has rushed for a team-high five TDs and is averaging 20.3 rushing yards per game.
Bryant has found a target in offensive specialist Tony Locke, who set an arenafootball2 season-high of 212 yards receiving on eight catches last week in the team's win over Louisville. Bryant connected with Locke on four TD passes in the game.
