Akron left fielder Jon Van Every (2-for-3, 2 R), who scored on a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning for the Aeros other run, led off the 12th with a triple into the right field corner off reliever Brad Mumma (0-1). He scored on Cardona's sacrifice fly to center field.

New Hampshire (51-46) scored its run in the fifth inning off Akron (52-44) starter Rafael Perez. Chip Cannon led off with his second Fisher Cat homer, a blast to right field to tie the game 1-1.

Akron's fourth pitcher, Travis Foley (5-1), did not allow a run, yielding one hit in two innings of relief to pick up the win. In the last of the 12th, third baseman Brad Hassey (2-for-5) led off with a double and went to third on shortstop Raul Tablado's sacrifice bunt. Foley struck out Miguel Negron and got second baseman Ryan Roberts to fly to center field to end the game.

For New Hampshire, Dustin McGowan allowed one unearned run in 5.1 innings. Tracy Thorpe, Jesse Carlson and Steve Andrade pitched 5.2 of scoreless relief. Fisher Cat pitching combined to strike out 17 Aero hitters.

New Hampshire moved into first place in the Northern Division by taking the first two games of the series with Southern Division leading Akron. The teams split the six games they played in the regular season in 2005. The Fisher Cats next play host to the Portland Sea Dogs for a three-game series starting Friday night. Right hander Ismael Ramirez (7-9, 4.22) goes for New Hampshire against Portland southpaw Jon Lester (7-3, 2.45). Game time is 6:35pm.
