Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release
A three-run double by Alex Romero in the ninth wound up being the difference for the New Britain Rock Cats, who took a back-and-forth game from the Binghamton Mets, winning 10-8 at NYSEG Stadium Wednesday. New Britain swept the three-game series and handed Binghamton its fourth straight loss.
The B-Mets (42-51) went on top when Lastings Milledge led off by reaching on a hit by a pitch, stole second, moved to third on an error and scored on a Mike Jacobs infield single. Binghamton made it 3-0 in the second when David Bacani walked, Milledge singled and Wayne Lydon walked, loading the bases for Aarom Baldiris, who doubled down the leftfield line, scoring Bacani and Milledge.
New Britain (44-54) pulled within 3-2 in the third on a Doug Deeds sacrifice fly and Danny Matienzo RBI double and tied the score in the fourth on Denard Span's run-scoring single to left. However, Binghamton went up again on Jacobs' bases-loaded two-run single in the fourth, scoring Corey Ragsdale and Milledge for a 5-3 lead. After New Britain scored three times in the fifth for a 6-5 lead, the B-Mets rallied to tie the game against reliever Matt Yeatman in the sixth. Milledge led off the inning with a single, was bunted to second by Lydon and moved to third on an error before Yeatman (4-7) threw a wild pitch, bringing Milledge home and tying the game 6-6. The B-Mets took yet another lead in the bottom of the eighth when Lydon greeted Yeatman with a bunt single and stole second. However, he was put out on a fielder's choice that allowed Baldiris to reach ahead of Jacobs' double off the rightfield wall, which moved Baldiris to third. Three batters later, Bobby Malek drove them both home with a bloop-base hit to right for an 8-6 B-Mets lead.
After getting a lineout to begin the ninth, B-Mets reliever Jose Rodriguez walked Kennedy, who was pinch-run for by James Tomlin. After striking out Felix Molina, Tommy Watkins singled to right and Span reached on a fielder's choice, loading the bases for Romero, who cleared them with a double to right-center, chasing Rodriguez (1-3). Deeds followed with an RBI single off Matt Lindstrom, bringing home Romero for the game's final run.
After an off-day Thursday, the B-Mets begin a seven-game road trip, starting with a three-game series against the Bowie Baysox. Friday, Yusmeiro Petit (4-2, 2.93) will go for Binghamton against Bowie lefty Richard Stahl (0-4, 4.14). Game time at Prince Georges Stadium is 7:05, with the Horizons Federal Credit Union Pre-Game Show kicking off the radio broadcast at 6:50 on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
