Akron Tops Erie As Cabrera Wins Game With RBI-Double

AKRON -- The Akron Aeros split the four-game weekend series against Erie with a 4-3 win at Canal Park on Sunday afternoon. Aeros starter, Chuck Lofgren, dazzled the Mother's Day crowd going seven hitless innings in the no-decision. Asdrubal Cabrera ended the game with a two-out RBI double off the right field wall scoring Argenis Reyes from first base in the bottom of the ninth.

Lofgren faced 22 batters over the seven innings and it was that one batter which he did not retire that cause him all the trouble. In the top of the fourth, he walked Clete Thomas who came around to score the SeaWolves first run on a sacrifice fly by Jeff Larish.

With his pitch count rising, Lofgren did not come out for the eighth leaving the no-hitter for Jake Dittler to finish. However, a sacrifice bunt in the bottom of the eighth turned into a infield single as no one covered first base, giving Erie its first hit.

The SeaWolves plated two runs in the inning to take a 3-1 lead. However, Jon Van Every tied the game with one swing, connecting on his second home run of the season, leaving the heroics for the bottom of the ninth.

It was the second game in a row that Reyes scored the winning run in the Aeros last at-bat. On the afternoon, Cabrera went 2-5 with two doubles and Van Every also recorded two hits, scored two runs, drove in a pair and recorded a walk as well.

Akron will have an off day on Monday before opening a three-game homestand with Bowie on Tuesday, May 15 at 7:05 p.m.
