B-Mets Come From Behind To Blow Out Portland

Trailing 6-1 early, the Binghamton Mets scored 11 unanswered runs, including six in the seventh, for a 12-6 win over the Portland Sea Dogs at Hadlock Field Sunday. The B-Mets swept the four-game series at Portland.

The B-Mets (13-20) scored the game's first run in the second. Jose Coronado and Nic Jackson began the frame with singles before Corey Ragsdale was hit by a pitch, loading the bases. Two batters later, Mark Kiger scored Coronado with a sacrifice fly for a 1-0 B-Mets lead.

Portland (15-15) responded with six runs in their next two at-bats. In the second, Andrew Pinckney drove in two with a double before Iggy Suarez hit a two-run homer for a 4-1 Portland lead. The Sea Dogs went ahead 6-1 in the third when Cory Keylor tripled home a run and later scored on Dusty Brown's sacrifice fly.

Binghamton began chipping away in the fifth. After singles by Fernando Martinez and Caleb Stewart put two men on, Mike Nickeas drove in Martinez with a single and Coronado's fielder's choice plated Stewart. The B-Mets got a pair of unearned run in the sixth when Kiger was hit by a pitch and scored on an error before Stewart doubled home Martinez, who reached on the error. That brought the B-Mets within 6-5.

Brett Harper began the sixth by working out a walk against Portland reliever Kyle Jackson before Nickeas bunted him to second. Coronado followed with a walk and, two batters later, Corey Ragsdale drew a two-out walk, loading the bases and chasing Jackson (3-2) in favor of Beau Vaughn. Corey Coles then singled home Harper with the tying run before Kiger's two-run single brought in Coronado and Ragsdale, giving the B-Mets the lead for good. After Martinez was intentionally walked, Coles scored on a wild pitch before Stewart singled, bringing in Kiger and Martinez for an 11-6 B-Mets lead.

Coles drove in the game's final run in the eighth, when his base hit scored Nickeas from second.

B-Mets relievers Robert Paulk, Tim McNab and Carlos Muñiz combined for six shutout innings of relief, with McNab (2-0) getting the win. Monday, the B-Mets continue their 11-game road trip, starting a four-game series against the Connecticut Defenders. Salvador Aguilar (0-1, 7.52) will start for the B-Mets against Garrett Broshuis (0-4, 3.13) of Connecticut. Game time is 6:35 from Dodd Stadium with the radio broadcast starting at 6:20 on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.

Notes: the last eight B-Mets runs were scored with two outs...the 12 runs are a season high, surpassing the 11 runs scored Saturday and the eight runs scored Friday...in addition to the 31 runs, the B-Mets drummed out 34 hits over the last three games, htting .301...Muñiz tossed a scoreless ninth, pitching for the fourth time in five days...Portland allowed 12 unearned runs in the last three games, committing 10 errors.
