Akeson Scores Overtime Goal To Edge Rangers 8-7 Over Knights

After 62:09 of play, the Rangers' Jason Akeson scored the game-winning goal to pick up an 8-7 victory over the London Knights and tie the series 2-2.

The Rangers took a 1-0 lead midway through the first period when Michael Catenacci scored his fourth goal of the playoffs. London replied with two in-a-row to take a 2-1 lead by the 14:51 mark. Goals were by Pieter Schinkelshoek and Tyler Brown. Ryan Murphy scored with 4-seconds left on the clock to tie the game 2-2. The Rangers outshot the Knights 12-6 in the period.

A goal by Jeff Skinner regained the lead for Kitchener at the 2:12 mark of the second period. London tied the score 3-3 with a power play marker by Nazem Kadri. John Moore one-timed a pass from Akeson to put the Rangers up 4-3 at 12:45. London had a 14-12 shooting edge over Kitchener in the period.

By the 5:18 mark of the third period, Skinner scored his second and third goal in response to two London goals to make it 6-5. London goals were by Kadri (his second of the game) and Jared Knight. Moore scored his second of the game at 12:26 to push the Rangers up 7-5. London went on to score two goals and push the game into overtime. Akeson scored the game-winner at 2:09 of the overtime period.

The Rangers travel to London for game five tomorrow - Thursday, April 8th. Game time is 7:00pm. They return to The Aud for game six on Saturday, April 10th at 7:00pm. Tickets for game six go on sale Thursday, April 8th at 10am.
