Texas AirHogs News Release
GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas - The AirHogs scored 6 times in the 7th inning to rout Joplin 9-2 in the opener of a 4-game set Thursday. Michael Hur and Nick Akins each finished with 3 RBIs. Cody Hebner started for the AirHogs and got off to a great first 3 innings, facing just 9 in that span. He would load the bases to start the 4th but allowed just 1 run to cross.
The AirHogs built him a lead on an RBI single by Michael Hur in the 1st to score Brian Bistagne. The team got 2 more in the 2nd off Joplin lefty Wander Perez. Michael Valadez and Juan Sanchez each had an RBI in the inning.
The Blasters cut the lead to 3-2 in the 6th on a leadoff home run by Geraldo Valentin in the 6th, but they would get no closer. After Jack Karraker stranded a man at 3rd in the top of the 7th, the AirHogs boarded 6 straight with 2 outs against Perez in the bottom of the 7th. Hur picked up 2 RBIs with a bases loaded single and Devon Rodriguez added an RBI single of his own before Nick Akins blew the game open with a monster 3-run homer to left center to make it 9-2. The blast was the 5th of the season for Akins.
Trey Masek and Tyler Ihrig combined to strand 4 and fire a scoreless 8th and 9th respectively. The win was the 5th of the year for Hebner, while the loss was the 2nd of the year for Perez. The AirHogs (28-49) meet the Blasters (26-50) again tomorrow at 7:05. LHP David Wayne Russo is expected to start for the AirHogs.
