
AirHogs Can't Hang on to Early Lead in Wichita

WICHITA, Kansas - Dillon Thomas and Lu Zhenhong each scored two runs, but the Texas AirHogs lost the third of a four-game set in Wichita Saturday, 8-6. The team wraps the series vs. the Wingnuts Sunday at 1:05.
The AirHogs got out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first vs. Wichita starter Charlie Gillies. Thomas, Stewart Ijames and Chen Junpeng all picked up RBIs as Texas got out to the early advantage.
The Wingnuts quickly responded though, tagging AirHogs starter Meng Weiqiang for six runs in the bottom of the first and the bottom of the second. Trailing 7-3 in the fifth, the AirHogs drew within one on a sacrifice fly by Casio Grider and a two-RBI double by Correlle Prime.
Lu Yusong relieved Meng Weiqiang after three innings and allowed single tallies in the fourth and fifth to complete the game's scoring. The Wingnuts outhit the AirHogs 12-7. Every spot in the order had at least one hit for Wichita. Zach Nehrir and Abel Nieves led the way for the Wingnuts, scoring two runs apiece.
Qi Xin and Zheng Chaoqun combined to fire three straight scoreless frames in relief for Texas. Daniel Tillman finished the game on the mound for Wichita, notching his 13th save by striking out the side in the ninth. Gillies (5-4) picked up the win, while Meng (4-5) suffered the loss.
Texas (14-38) concludes the series in Wichita (33-20) Sunday at 1:05. LHP Tyler Matzek (2-5, 6.02 ERA) is expected to start for the AirHogs vs. RHP Tyler Kane (2-1, 5.32 ERA) for the Wingnuts. A live broadcast of the game will be available at mixlr.com/TXAirHogs.
