SASKATOON, SK - On Wednesday, Saskatoon Blades general manager & president Colin Priestner announced a change in leadership due to a persistent injury to captain Aidan De La Gorgendiere.

With De La Gorgendiere set to undergo season-ending surgery, 2001-born forward Tristen Robins will wear the 'C' for the remainder of the 2021-22 regular season and playoffs.

"Aidan has been battling through an ailment for most of the season, and over the weekend, it finally reached a point where surgery was the only option for him," stated Priestner. "We will miss his leadership and it certainly is difficult news given how much he means to our team on and off the ice."

De La Gorgendiere, a 2002-born defenceman, is expected to return to full health for the beginning of the 2022-23 regular season. The Langley, BC product leads the team in defensive scoring with 45 points (4G-41A) in 54 games.

Robins, a second-round selection by the San Jose Sharks in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft, was named one of three alternate captains at the beginning of the season. The Clear Lake, MB product takes over captaincy sitting second in team scoring with 32 goals and 42 assists for 74 points in 59 games. The right-shot centre leads the team in game-winning goals (9) and powerplay markers (14).

"Tristen is the natural choice for us to assume the primary leadership role on the team," added Priestner. "He has the respect of the entire locker room, and leads by example on and off the ice with his work ethic and ability. It's a great way for him to end his WHL career as we enter the final seven games of the regular season, and prepare for a run in the playoffs."

Robins will make his captaincy debut Wednesday night, when the Blades travel to Regina to face Connor Bedard and the Regina Pats.
