Regina Pats News Release
Regina, Sask. - The Regina Pats (23-31-3-2) continue their homestand when they take on the Saskatoon Blades (34-23-3-1) on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m., inside the Brandt Centre.
The Pats are coming off a 5-2 loss to the Brandon Wheat Kings on Saturday at the Brandt Centre, extending their losing-streak to four straight games. Regina opened the scoring with an early power play goal, but it was the Wheat Kings scoring three unanswered goals in the final two minutes of the first that proved to be the difference.
Zack Stringer and Connor Bedard scored for the Pats, with Bedard scoring his 44th of the season, which is now one shy of tying Jeff Friesen's Pats 16-year-old record for goals in a season with 45. The Pats went 2-for-3 on the power play and 2-for-2 on the penalty kill. The final shots were 28-26 for the Pats.
For the Saskatoon Blades, they are coming off a 7-0 loss to the Moose Jaw Warriors on Saturday at Mosaic Place, as they were shutout for the seventh time this season. They have now dropped five of their last seven games, having been outscored 25-to-13 during that time. The Blades clinched a playoff berth on Friday after defeating the Pats 3-1. They are currently fifth in the Eastern Conference with 72 points, with seven games remaining on their schedule.
Goaltender Nolan Maier is three wins away from capturing the WHL's all-time wins record with 121. Forward Kyle Crnkovic is third in the WHL in scoring with 88 points, while fourth in assists (53) and tied for ninth in goals (35).
