After Three Hour Rain Delay Saints Lead 4-3 as Curfew Halts Play, Resume Wednesday

ST. PAUL, MN - The St. Paul Saints waited through more than three hours of a rain delay. First pitch was thrown at 10:15 p.m. Play was finally halted at 12:11 a.m. because of the mandatory American Association midnight curfew that states no full inning shall start after midnight. The Saints lead the Joplin Blasters 4-3 as they head to the top of the seventh. The game will resume at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday and will finish to its conclusion. The regularly scheduled game will start at its normal 7:05 p.m. time and gates will open at 5:30 p.m.

The Saints jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning when Alonzo Harris led off with a single and Brady Burzynski followed with a single to left. Nate Hanson walked to load the bases. A sacrifice fly from Angelo Songco gave the Saints a 1-0 lead. Tony Thomas' infield single to third loaded the bases again. Willie Argo drove home two with a single to left to give the Saints a 3-0 lead. After a walk to Tony Caldwell loaded the bases Aaron Gretz knocked in a run with a sacrifice fly to make it 4-0 Saints.

In the second Geraldo Valentin started it for the Blasters with a dribbler to third for an infield single. Juan Medina singled to left to put runners at first and second. A walk to Sergio Leon loaded the bases. Saints starter Robert Coe would strike out KC Huth for the second out of the inning, but Oscar Mesa doubled home two to make it 4-2.

In the fourth the Blasters cut the Saints lead to 4-3 on a solo homer by Leon, his second of the season.

The regularly scheduled game will be the finale of the three game series between the two teams at CHS Field. The Saints send RHP John Straka (5-2, 6.30) to the mound and the Blasters are TBA. The first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive an Unwritten Rulebook. The game can be seen on the Saints Cable Network, cable access channels in the Twin Cities area, and heard on Club 1220 KLBB.
