After This Week, Stevenson to Begin Life After Hockey

Kalamazoo, MI- The Kalamazoo Wings, proud member of the International Hockey League, announce forward Jeremy Stevenson will leave the team after this weekend to pursue opportunities outside of hockey.

A former draft pick of the Winnipeg Jets (3rd round, 60th overall) in the 1992 NHL Entry Draft and of the Anaheim Mighty Ducks (11th round, 262nd overall) in the 1994 draft, Stevenson played in five games, not including this weekend, this season for the K-Wings.

"When we signed Jeremy (Stevenson) this summer, we had an understanding that this new opportunity could materialize sometime during the season," said General Manager Wade Welsh. "While the organization would have rather had this job offer come to fruition sometime in May, we appreciate the professional manner in which Jeremy has handled this situation and wish him well in his new endeavor."

Stevenson has recorded eight points (5 goals, 3 assists) and currently leads the team in power-play goals with three.

Making sure the K-Wings will not play shorthanded this week, Stevenson has agreed to be in the lineup for each of the K-Wings' three games.

"Without question, the K-Wings are a better organization for Jeremy being apart of it," said Director of Hockey Operations/Head Coach Nick Bootland. "His work ethic has definitely rubbed off on the rest of the team and he has been a valuable asset to our locker room. Though he could have left today, by playing this weekend, he continues to show his leadership and passion for his teammates and the game."

An impact player when in the lineup, the K-Wings' transition to life after Stevenson should be made easier due to playing a majority of the first two months of the season without him. With Stevenson out of the lineup, the K-Wings have a winning record of 6-3-0-0, compared to 2-3-0-0 with him.

In total, Stevenson has missed nine games this season. Stevenson was absent five games due to an injury suffered during a home game on October 25th versus Fort Wayne. Following a two-game return to the lineup on November 14th and 15th, Stevenson missed Kalamazoo's entire four games last week due to two deaths in his family.
