Early Bird Special...There's an old saying in baseball that if you're going to get to a star pitcher, you better do it early before he gets locked in. The Aeros took that message to heart last night, scoring all three runs in the first two innings against Reading starter Brett Myers and then holding on for a 3-2 triumph at FirstEnergy Stadium. 2B Josh Rodriguez opened the game with a solo home run to left on the very first pitch Myers threw, and C Wyatt Toregas continued his hot hitting by lacing a two-out RBI single to left later in the frame. DH Ryan Goleski used his feet to manufacture Akron's final run in the second, reaching on an error to start the inning, stealing second base (his first stolen bag since April 15th), and then scoring all the way from second when Myers dropped a throw covering first base on what should have led to the final out of the inning. Myers, who was Philadelphia's Opening Day starter this year and the closer for the Phillies last season, got into a groove after that however, retiring the next seven hitters after committing the error and then later setting down the final 10 men he faced. In the first two innings he allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits and a walk; in the final six innings he allowed no runs and just one hit and one walk. He also finished the evening with 10 strikeouts in eight innings (118 pitches).

Mason-Dixon Line...Akron starter Kevin Dixon may not have been the reason almost 9,000 fans packed into the ballpark last night, but by the time the game was over he had certainly opened some eyes. Dixon matched Myers pitch for pitch, turning in his fourth straight quality start and earning his eighth victory of the year. The native of Burnsville, MN limited the Phillies to just a run on five hits over six solid innings, with three walks against six strikeouts. He also enjoyed some solid defense behind him, as the infielders turned double plays in both the fourth and fifth innings to erase base runners. Dixon ran into trouble in the sixth after issuing a two-out walk, but Lady Luck smiled on him as Mike Eylward's sharp grounder hit the foot of runner Neil Sellers as he led away from first base for the final out of Dixon's night. The right-hander is now 6-1 with a 3.30 over his last seven starts, with six quality starts in that span. He has also won four straight starts.

Don't Forget...3B Wes Hodges and LF Matt LaPorta will both represent the U.S. team in the 10th annual Futures Game at Yankee Stadium today. The game will be broadcast live starting at 12:30 p.m. on ESPN2. Of course, Aeros fans will have to TiVo the game since first pitch here in Reading is at 1:05 p.m.

Did You Know...The Aeros remained perfect when Nathan Panther gets a start in centerfield last night, improving to 9-0 with the victory, and Akron also improved to an unreal 18-4 in one-run games (an .818 winning percentage). Finally, Josh Rodriguez socked his sixth home run of the season last night, and all six have been solo shots.
