A Triumphant Return...Former Baysox hurler Bobby Livingston made his first start at Prince George's Stadium since joining the Aeros at the start of July and was very impressive, turning in a quality start as Akron broke a tie in the top of the ninth to claim a 4-3 win in the opener of this four-game series. Livingston, who went 6-2 in 13 games for Bowie to start the season, allowed just a pair of sacrifice flies in six innings while tying a season-high with four strikeouts. SS Carlos Rivero paced the offense with a pair of hits and also sparked the winning rally in the ninth with a leadoff single, eventually scoring the deciding run on a fielder's choice from 2B Jared Goedert. RHP Neil Wagner struck out the side in the bottom of the ninth for the save.
Playoff Scenarios...Akron's victory coupled with Reading's come-from-behind 8-5 win over Erie means that the Aeros could guarantee themselves a playoff spot tonight. Akron has a magic number of two to clinch a trip to the post-season, so a sweep in tonight's doubleheader would do the trick, as would one win AND an Erie loss. The Aeros eliminated Bowie from division title contention last night, although the Baysox can still get the wild card. Akron's magic number for the division is four over Reading.
Did You Know...Not only can the Aeros clinch a playoff spot tonight, but they can also make history. One more win and Akron will become the first Eastern League franchise to ever win at least 80 games in five consecutive seasons.
