Curve Rally In Ninth For 4-3 Win
August 26, 2009 - Eastern League (EL1)
Altoona Curve News Release
ALTOONA, PA - Jonel Pacheco doubled home Pedro Alvarez to finish a two-run rally for the Curve in the bottom of the ninth to defeat the Trenton Thunder (AA-New York Yankees) 4-3 in walk-off fashion for their season best fourth win in a row Wednesday night at Blair County Ballpark.
After falling behind 2-0 in the early innings the Curve tied the score in the fourth inning scoring on a fielder's choice and then a single by CF Gorkys Hernandez.
Eduardo Nunez then completed his 4-for-5 night with the RBI single to score the pinch running James Cooper in the top of the ninth to give the Thunder a 3-2 lead.
Hernandez then led off the ninth with a double and would score two batters later on the double by Alvarez to tie the game. After an intentional walk to Jason Delaney, Pacheco drilled a Wilkins Arias (5-4) pitch just inside the third base line for the game winning hit for Altoona (57-73).
Curve starter Daniel Moskos had another fine outing as he threw 6.0 innings allowing just two runs on eights but did not factor in the decision. Moskos would pitch himself out of several jams including leaving the bases loaded in the fifth by inducing a groundout, Moskos is now holding opposing hitters to a .100 (1x10) average with the bases loaded this season.
The Curve and Thunder (63-66) conclude their season series Thursday night at BCB. First pitch for the finale is set for 6:35 p.m. with radio coverage starting at 6:05 p.m. on ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM and the Altoona Curve Radio Network with the Marzoni's In-the-Zone Pre-Game Show.
