Lucky Sevens...The Aeros extended their winning streak to seven games yesterday, clipping Erie 4-3 before 7,270 fans at Canal Park. It's the third time this year that Akron has enjoyed a seven-game winning streak, matching the runs from April 17th-24th (1) and July 27th-August 2nd, which ironically also began with a four-game sweep of the SeaWolves (the Aeros can sweep them again with a win this afternoon). Akron took a page out of Erie's playbook by swatting three solo home runs to take a 3-2 lead after six innings, and veteran C Armando Camacaro used his legs to score what proved to be the winning run in the bottom of the seventh. Connor Graham battled through five innings and only surrendered two runs despite allowing 13 base runners, and the relief trio of RHPs Carlton Smith, Steven Wright and Josh Judy held the SeaWolves to just one run over the final four innings.

Built for Speed...No less an authority than Joe Garagiola once said, "The wind always seems to blow against catchers when they run." Thus it came as a downright shock to everyone in the crowd (and especially the Erie defenders) when Akron backup catcher Armando Camacaro had the chutzpah to try a delayed steal of second with two down in the bottom of the seventh and the game tied at 3-3 yesterday. SeaWolves catcher Adrian Casanova first had to wait for someone to cover the bag, and when he finally made his throw it skipped into center field. Camacaro popped to his feet, saw the ball rolling away, and immediately began lumbering toward third. Casper Wells collected the ball in center but airmailed the throw into the Akron dugout, allowing Camacaro to rumble home at a slightly more dignified pace with the deciding run. It was Camacaro's first stolen base of the year.

Knowledge is Power...The Aeros finally know who they're going to play in the first round of the playoffs, as the Reading Phillies defeated Connecticut yesterday to clinch the wild card spot in the Southern Division. That means Akron will host Reading Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. at Canal Park for game one of the Southern Division Championship Series, with game two slated for Thursday at 7:05 p.m. Game three will be Friday night at FirstEnergy Stadium in Reading, game four (if necessary) will also be in Reading, and game five (if necessary) will be back here in Akron Sunday the 13th at 7:05 p.m. The Phillies have snapped the Eastern League's longest current playoff drought and are in the post-season for the first time since 2001, but Akron and Reading have never met in the playoffs. Reading's last appearance in 2001 ended with a co-championship with New Britain after the rest of the season was cancelled following the September 11th attacks, while the Aeros are into the post-season for the fifth straight year.
