Sierra , Nick Gorneault Lead Fisher Cats In Season Finale

New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release


Portland, ME- Moises Sierra went 3-for-4 with an RBI and Nick Gorneault added two hits, a single and a double, but the Fisher Cats dropped the 2009 season finale, 12-4, on Monday afternoon at Hadlock Field.

Portland (67-74) struck for three runs in the bottom of the first inning against losing pitcher Kenny Rodriguez (4-5). Daniel Nava led off with a single and Ryan Kalish then hit a two-run homer to make it 2-0. Two batters later Jon Still (3-for-4, 2 HR, 3 RBI) drilled his club-leading 16th homer to put the Sea Dogs up 3-0.

The Fisher Cats cut into the lead in the top of the third inning. Al Quintana singled and scored on a triple by Todd Donovan. Donovan then came home on Darin Mastroianni's ground out to make it 3-2 Portland.

The Sea Dogs extended the lead with five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Yamaico Navarro singled and stole second. He scored on a Nava single. After Kalish walked, Jorge Jimenez (3-for-6, 3 RBI) singled. When the relay throw back was wild, Kalish scored and Jimenez wound up at third. Still then followed with his second home run of the game over the Maine Monster to make it 8-2, sending Rodriguez to the showers.

In the last of the fifth inning, Jimenez delivered a bases-loaded single, scoring two runs as the Sea Dogs built a 10-2 lead.

New Hampshire answered back with two runs in the top of the sixth inning. Mastroianni singled, Brad Emaus walked and Sierra (3-for-4, RBI) singled him home. Gorneault (2-for-4) followed with a single off Portland starter Blake Maxwell and Brian Jeroloman drove in Emaus with a sacrifice fly to make it 10-4.

Maxwell (7-8) allowed four earned runs on eight hits to earn the win. He walked one and struck out seven.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Portland catcher Juan Apodaca homered and Nava (3-for-5, 3 R, 2 RBI) added an RBI single off reliever Nate Starner to make it 12-4.

The Fisher Cats conclude the 2009 season with a record of 65-77, finishing in fifth place in the Northern Division.
