Admirals, Wolves Play Game 7 Monday
Milwaukee, WI-For the seventh time in team history the Milwaukee Admirals will skate in the seventh game of a playoff series when they travel to the All-State Arena on Monday night for a winner-take-all game seven against the Chicago Wolves in the West Division Semifinals. This will be the first time in six post-season clashes that the Admirals and Wolves will need a seventh game to decide a victor.
The Admirals have dug themselves out of a 3-1 series deficit to push the series to a decisive game. Milwaukee trailed 4-1 with less than 23 minutes left to play in game four in Chicago, but they battled back and scored the game's final four tallies to take the win before getting a thrilling 5-4 overtime victory on the strength of Ryan Maki's OT goal Friday night at the Bradley Center in game six.
This is the second consecutive post-season that the Ads have comeback from a 3-1 deficit to force a game seven. However, the Admirals will look for a better outcome in the seventh game this season than they had last year when they dropped a 5-2 decision to the Houston Aeros in the West Division Finals.
In addition, this is the fifth time in the past seven years that Milwaukee play a seventh game in a series, but the first one that is on the road. In 2004 and 2005 the Admirals played a seventh game in the West Division Semifinals against the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks, winning the ultimate game in 04 before losing in 05. Then in 2006 the Ads faced the Iowa Stars in a game seven and won 4-1 to advance to the next round.
Milwaukee is 0-2 lifetime in road game sevens, but they last time they had one was back in 1981 against the Fort Wayne Komets in the first round where they fell 7-3.
The Admirals have plenty of game seven experience on their roster as 16 players have skated in a game seven at some point in their careers, including ten who were a part of last year's Admirals squad. In addition to those ten Ben Guite, Marty Murray, Wacey Rabbit, and Dave Scatchard all have done it in the AHL with other teams, while Scatchard played in a game seven with the New York Islanders in the 2002 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Plus, Mark Van Guilder and Reid Cashman skated against each other when Cincinnati topped Wheeling 4-3 in the first round of Kelly Cup Playoffs last year.
Fans who can't make it down to Chicago for the contest can listen to the game live with Aaron Sims on Sports Radio 1250 WSSP.
