Bulldogs Win Series With 3-2 Overtime Victory Over Moose
Hamilton, ON - The Hamilton Bulldogs defeated the Manitoba Moose 3-2 in overtime on Sunday night at Copps Coliseum. The 'Dogs have now defeated the Moose 4-2 in the best-of-seven North Division Semi-Final series between the clubs. The Bulldogs fired a season-high 49 shots on the Manitoba net tonight with Grant Stevenson scoring the overtime winner.
The Moose opened the game's scoring at 4:03 of the first period with a shorthanded marker. Yan Stastny and Guillaume Desbiens skated into the Bulldogs zone on a two-on-one. Stastny fed a pass to Desbiens, who carried the puck towards the net. Desbiens blasted a shot on net that was stopped by Hamilton starting goaltender Cedrick Desjardins. The rebound bounced onto the stick of Stastny, who fired the puck into the net.
The 'Dogs tied the game 1-1 at 18:04 of the first frame with a power-play goal. Andre Benoit blasted a shot on net that was stopped by Manitoba starting goaltender Cory Schneider. P.K. Subban grabbed the loose rebound and faked a shot before sending the puck to David Desharnais, who was stationed at the right side of the net. Desharnais blasted a one-time shot past Schneider and into the net.
Peter Olvecky regained the lead for the Moose 33 seconds into the second stanza. Marco Rosa intercepted a pass from a Bulldogs player before chipping the puck to Olvecky, who was alone in front of the Hamilton net. Olvecky backhanded the puck over the glove of Desjardins and into the top of the net.
The Bulldogs tied the game 2-2 on the power play at 15:26 of the second stanza. Subban sent a pass to Brock Trotter, who was stationed at the left side boards. Trotter fired a shot towards the net that hit a player. Ryan White grabbed the puck before shovelling it between the legs of Schneider and across the goal line.
The game went into extra minutes as both teams were locked at two goals each. 8:49 seconds into the extra period Grant Stevenson scored to give the 'Dogs a 3-2 victory and end the season for the Moose. Ryan Russell raced down the right side boards before backhanding a pass to Stevenson. The puck banked off Stevenson and underneath the pad of Schneider.
The Bulldogs will either face the Abbotsford Heat or Rochester Americans in the North Division Final.
