Norfolk Admirals News Release
NORFOLK, VA - The Norfolk Admirals announced today that "The Original Admiral" Dennis McEwen has joined the team as Corporate Sales Manager and that former intern Meghan Kohler has joined the team as Administrative Assistant.
"I think these are two great hires for the Admirals as we move forward," said Admirals Vice President Mark Bernard. "Just like any good hockey team, you're always looking to improve. I think by adding Dennis and Meghan, we have done that."
McEwen spent the past three years as Tournament Director at The Chilled Ponds Ice Sports Complex in Chesapeake. Prior to that, he spent five years as Branch Manager at Ridgway's printing company.
McEwen spent parts of seven seasons in an Admirals uniform from 1989 to 1999 and won Riley Cup Championships in 1991 and 1992. He is known as "The Original Admiral," as he was the first player signed when the Hampton Roads Admirals were founded in 1989. A forward, McEwen ranks fourth in games played (262), seventh in points (202), sixth in goals (76), and eighth in assists (126) in Hampton Roads Admirals (ECHL) history.
"Anytime you get to add someone of Dennis' caliber and personality to your staff I think you're very lucky," said Bernard, who played alongside McEwen with the Admirals in the 1990-91 and 1991-92 seasons. "He fits exactly what we were looking for in a corporate sales person. We have the added bonus that he is 'The Original Admiral.' He is very recognizable in the community and with our fans. We feel that he will be, just as he was as a player, a great addition to our team."
Kohler is completing her degree in Sports Management at Old Dominion University. She served as an intern with the Admirals during the 2006-07 season.
"I think that Meghan proved herself time and time again as an intern last season," said Bernard. "She's an outgoing person and a real go-getter. She did not have to do the internship for her schooling - she did it on her free time, which showed me a lot about her personality and character. With her outgoing personality and solid work ethic, we feel that she will be very helpful with season ticket sales, group sales and corporate sales."
2007-08 season tickets are on sale now through the Admirals' office and through the Admirals' website. For more information, contact the Admirals at (757) 640-1212 or visit them online at www.norfolkadmirals.com.
