NORFOLK, VA - The Virginia Beach Reading Council recognized the Norfolk Admirals' All-Star Reading Program with the Literacy Award at their Annual Spring Banquet and Awards Ceremony on Monday night.

The All-Star Reader Program was instituted last season to reward elementary school students for reading. Students who completed the program received free tickets to Admirals games. In order to earn the tickets, students in grade levels K-2 read ten books and students in grade levels 3-5 read five books. After reaching their goal, they received Admirals bookmarks that entitled them to tickets to Admirals games.

Over 15,000 Virginia Beach Public Schools students participated in the inaugural All-Star Reader Program.

"The All-Star Reader Program exceeded my expectations for its first season," said Admirals Director of Sales and Game Day Operations Anne Valihura. "It was great to see how the reading specialists, teachers and parents really embraced the program and helped to reach more and more readers."

The Admirals will continue the All-Star Reader Program next season and hope to include students in Portsmouth in addition to Virginia Beach. For more information about the program, please contact Meghan Kohler at (757) 640-1212 ext. 22 or meghan@norfolkadmirals.com.

2007-08 season tickets are on sale now through the Admirals' office and through the Admirals' website. For more information, contact the Admirals at (757) 640-1212 or visit them online at www.norfolkadmirals.com.
