Milwaukee Admirals News Release
Milwaukee, WI - The Milwaukee Admirals outshot the Hamilton Bulldogs by 40-17, while outscoring them 3-2 thanks to a pair of third period goals by Mike Santorelli and three assists from Cody Franson.
Santorelli scored his second of the night, and the eventual game-winner, at 12:04 on the power-play. Franson's fired a shot from the point that banked off the back boards, and it came right out to Mark Matheson at the left circle face-off dot. A quick pass over to Santorelli is all it would take to fake out Desjardins, as Santorelli had the open net to shoot at for his 22nd of the season.
"It was a great game," noted Santorelli. "Definitely one of those playoff type games."
Hamilton jumped on the board at 3:30 of the 1st period when Ryan White skated in and took a wrist shot from the top of the right-wing circle that somehow found it's way under Mark Dekanich's arm. Mathieu Aubin was credited with the assist on the goal.
The Admirals didn't let the 1-0 lead discourage them for too long, as Kelsey Wilson picked up his 14th goal of the season to tie it up at one. Cody Franson head-manned the puck to Cal O'Reilly, who in turn centered it to an open Wilson, and all he had to do was tip it towards the net over Hamilton netminder Cedrick Desjardins' pad.
Hamilton grabbed a 2-1 lead just 3:21 into the second period, when Mike Glumac tipped a pass from Doug Janik at the hash-mark, beating a screened Dekanich. The second assist was given to Ben Maxwell for handing it off to Janik.
The Admirals were repeat offenders in tying the game when Mike Santorelli tipped a slapper from Cody Franson from the blue line right under the blocker of Desjardins. It was Franson's second assist of the game, and Mark Matheson was also given an assist on the play as well.
"For the most part we played pretty consistent for the whole 60 minutes tonight and I thought territorially, we were very good tonight," added Admirals Head Coach Lane Lambert.
The win cuts the Admirals magic number to clinch the West Division to six. Any combination of Admirals points earned and Houston points not earned that adds up to six will give Milwaukee third division crown in six years.
The Admirals travel to Rockford tomorrow night and then return to home to the Bradley Center on Wednesday at 7:00 pm versus the Houston Aeros. Fans can buy tickets by calling Ticketmaster at (800) 745-3000 or online at www.ticketmaster.com. Groups of ten or more people receive a minimum of $2 off of each ticket.
