Milwaukee Admirals News Release
Milwaukee, WI¨CThe Milwaukee Admirals received goals from Triston Grant, Mark Santorelli, and Ian McKenzie and Mark Dekanich made 28 saves as the Ads beat the Chicago Wolves 3-2 Saturday night in the first game of the 2009-10 season.
Chicago got the scoring going just 1:03 into the first when Tim Stapleton took a cross ice pass from Jason Krog and chipped it just out of the reach of Dekanich.
The Admirals outshot the Wolves 12-10 in the first period, while neither team was able to score on two power-play opportunities and Chicago led 1-0 after 20 minutes.
Milwaukee tied the score 2:09 into the second period on a Triston Grant goal. Robert Dietrich sent the puck from the corner to Ryan Maki in the right slot. Maki's shot was deflected, which froze Chicago netminder and former Admiral Drew MacIntyre, and went right to Grant, who had an easy backhander from just in front of the crease.
Santorelli broke the tie with a power-play marker at 12:02 of the second. Robert Dietrich held the Milwaukee zone and dumped the puck towards MacIntyre, but the puck was intercepted by Chicago defenseman Mike Vernace. However, Santorelli picked Vernace¡¯s pocket and then lofted a shot over MacIntyre¡¯s shoulder.
Less than two minutes later Milwaukee would go up 3-1 when Cal O¡¯Reilly forced a turnover at center ice and led an odd man-rush into the Chicago zone. He dished to McKenzie who fired a slap shot past the Wolves netminder.
The assist gave O¡¯Reilly 167 in his Admirals career, which is the most for a Milwaukee player since the team joined the AHL in 2001.
Chicago made the score 3-2 when Rylan Kaip scored on a 2-on-1 short-handed rush at 4:49 of the third period., but the Admirals defense and Dekanich shut the door the rest of the way to give the Ads the victory.
The Admirals will play five more games on the road before kicking off the home portion of their schedule on Saturday, October 24 at 7:30 against the Manitoba Moose. Season tickets for the 2009-10 season are still on sale for as little as $145.¡¡ For more information or to order season tickets, fans should call the Admirals office at (414) 227-0550.
