Columbus Recalls Defenseman Mathieu Roy

Syracuse, NY (October 3, 2009) - The Syracuse Crunch announced today that the Columbus Blue Jackets have added defenseman Mathieu Roy on emergency recall after placing defenseman Mike Commodore on injured reserved retroactive to September 19.

Roy, 25, appeared in 59 games with Springfield last season, collecting two goals, 15 assists and 120 penalty minutes. Roy has skated in 241 AHL games since 2003-04 with Toronto (Roadrunners), Edmonton (Roadrunners), Hamilton and Springfield, notching 16 goals, 75 assists and 390 penalty minutes. In addition he has appeared in 30 NHL games since 2005-06, all with the Edmonton Oilers,, compiling two goals, one assist and 57 penalty minutes.

A native of St-Georges, Quebec, Roy was selected by Edmonton in the seventh round, 215th overall in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. He was signed by Columbus as a free agent on July 14, 2009.

The Crunch open their 16th AHL season on Saturday, October 3 in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Syracuse opens up at home the following weekend when they face Adirondack on Saturday, October 10.
