
Admirals Sail Past Stars With 5-2 Win, Take 1-0 Series Lead

Milwaukee, WI - The Texas Stars (0-1) were defeated by the Milwaukee Admirals (1-0) 5-2 in Game 1 of the West Division Semifinal on Thursday night in front of 2,587 fans at the Bradley Center. Admirals' rookie Gabriel Bourque scored two goals and set up three others to lead Milwaukee to a 1-0 series lead. Linemate Chris Mueller added two goals and two assists for four points in the win. In all, the two combined for nine points against Texas. Milwaukee goalie Jeremy Smith (1-0) made 22 saves for the win. Texas goalie Richard Bachman (0-1) made 13 saves in two periods of work, taking the defeat. He was pulled in favor of Tyler Beskorowany after surrendering four goals. Stars forwards Aaron Gagnon and Mathieu Tousignant each had a goal in the loss. The Stars continue the first round of the Calder Cup Playoffs on Saturday against the Milwaukee Admirals at 7:00 PM.
Texas claimed the first lead of the series notching a power-play goal at 9:48 of the first period. Center Aaron Gagnon snapped a shot through traffic from the left-wing circle for the first goal of the series and a 1-0 Stars lead. Defenseman Dan Spang and center Travis Morin each had an assist on the play. The Admirals countered to tie the game 1-1 at 14:22. Forward Gabriel Bourque finished off a play with his first goal of the playoffs from defenseman Roman Josi and forward Andreas Thuresson. Before the period ended, Milwaukee pushed in front 2-1 at 17:15 of the first frame. Chris Mueller sent a backhand shot past Richard Bachman for his first goal of the playoffs and a one-goal lead for the Admirals. Bourque and defenseman Aaron Johnson each had an assist on Milwaukee's second goal of the night.
The Admirals expanded their lead at 7:36 of the second period. Forward Ryan Thang redirected a shot in the Texas crease for his first goal of the playoffs and a 3-1 Milwaukee lead. Bourque and Mueller each had an assist on the play. Milwaukee made it 4-1 at 18:41 of the second frame after Mueller carried the puck deep into the Texas zone and found Bourque in front of the Stars net. Bourque scored his second goal of the night to give the Admirals a three-goal lead through two periods of play. The goal ended Bachman's night with 13 saves.
Texas goalie Tyler Beskorwany started the third period in relief of Bachman, finishing the period with seven saves. The Stars cut the Admirals lead in half at 6:59 of the final frame. Mathieu Tousignant snapped a wrist shot past Smith for his first career playoff goal. Right wing Raymond Sawada and defenseman Philip Larsen each had an assist as the Stars trailed 4-2. Mueller netted his second goal of the night for Milwaukee at 9:26 of the third period. Bourque picked up his fifth point of the night with an assist on the final goal of the night and a 5-2 final score.

The Texas Stars continue the first round of the Calder Cup Playoffs on Saturday against the Milwaukee Admirals at 7:00 PM, Texas will host Game 3 on Tuesday, April 19th at 7:30 PM and Game 4 on Wednesday, April 20th at 7:30 PM at Cedar Park Center. If needed, Game 5 is Friday, April 22nd at 7:30 PM at Cedar Park Center. The best of seven series shifts to Milwaukee for Game 6 and Game 7 if needed.
