
Admirals Release One and Sign Two

NORFOLK, Va. - The Norfolk Admirals announced today that right winger Austin Smith and defenseman Jared Nightingale agreed to professional tryout contracts (PTO) with the American Hockey League (AHL) club. The Admirals also announced that forward Casey Pierro-Zabotel was released from his PTO.
Nightingale, 32, is a 10-year veteran and product of Michigan State University. The Jackson, Michigan product has 14 goals and 36 assists as an AHL blueliner over 393 career games, including six this season for the Hartford Wolf Pack. On October 26, Nightingale logged a plus-1 against the Admirals in a 3-0 Wolf Pack victory at the XL Center.
Smith, 26, returns to the AHL level after a 2013-14 campaign with the Texas Stars. He went scoreless in 10 appearances for the Stars, but has three goals and nine points in seven games for the ECHL's Allen Americans. A native of Dallas, Texas, Smith participated in 38 AHL contests over the last two years following a four-year career at Colgate University where he and current Norfolk center Chris Wagner were teammates. The 5-foot-11, 180-pound forward has two goals and six points in 38 career AHL games.
Pierro-Zabotel, 26, appeared in three games for the Admirals this season going scoreless. In 17 career AHL contests, Pierro-Zabotel posted a goal and two assists.
