Milwaukee Admirals News Release
Milwaukee, WI-For the first season and a half of his Admirals career right wing Ryan Maki totaled three goals.
However, in his last eight games the Harvard grad has posted five markers, including two on Tuesday night in the Admirals 4-3 win over the Grand Rapids Griffins at the Bradley Center.
Maki's second marker of the evening at 12:31 of the third period proved to be the difference in the game. With the game tied at three and the Admirals providing significant pressure in the Grand Rapids zone, the Griffins attempted to clear the puck but it was held in by defenseman Robert Dietrich who fired a shot on net that Maki deflected past netminder Jimmy Howard for the go-ahead score.
The first goal of the evening for Maki put Milwaukee up 3-1 at 15:33 of the second period, after he crashed hard to the net following a Kelsey Wilson shot and jammed the puck through Howard's legs.
The Admirals took that 3-1 lead into the third period, but soon found out why Grand Rapids has scored the most goals in the Western Conference. Center Evan McGrath's marker at 2:19 of the third was followed shortly thereafter by Justin Abdelkader's wrap-around goal at 2:42 and suddenly the Admirals once comfortable lead was gone, but it set the stage for Maki's game-winning tally.
The line of Hugh Jessiman, Cal O'Reilly, and James Sixsmith continued to play well for Milwaukee, scoring the team's first two goals. Jessiman lit the lamp first to put the Ads up 1-0 at 7:49 of the first period. With Sixsmith applying pressure on the forecheck, Griffins defenseman Garrett Stafford fired an errant pass that went to Jessiman in the right circle and he beat Howard high to the stick side at 7:49 of the first.
After former Admiral Darren Haydar tallied his 20th goal of the season to tie the game just 36 second later, O'Reilly picked up his 11th goal of the season at 12:49 of the first to put the Ads up 2-1. With Milwaukee controlling the puck in their own zone, TJ McElroy fired a shot that was dancing in the slot before O'Reilly bounced on the loose puck and buried it into the back of the Griffins' net.
Admirals goaltender Drew MacIntyre made 22 saves on the evening to pick up his AHL-leading 25th win of the season. The win was also the sixth in seven games for Milwaukee and their fourth straight at home.
The Admirals are back in action this Friday night at 7:00 pm at the Bradley Center against the Chicago Wolves.
