Rochester Americans News Release
(Rochester, NY)... After closing out their recent three-game homestand, the Rochester Americans continue their eight-game in 12-night stretch this week as they head west to complete a season-long five-game road trip in the next six nights.
Rochester's western road swing kicks off on Tuesday, February 10th as the Amerks travel to Wells Fargo Arena to take on the Iowa Chops in a non-divisional matchup. The 8:05 p.m. EST contest will be the second of two meetings between the two teams this season and will be broadcast live on SportsRadio 1280 WHTK, whtk.com and AHL Live. The Amerks dropped a 4-1 decision to the Chops in the first ever game with Anaheim Ducks' affiliate back on December 5th at The Blue Cross Arena.
The Amerks cross over into Illinois state borders the following night and will remain there the rest of the week as they head to Allstate Arena to take on the defending Calder Cup champion Chicago Wolves. Faceoff is slated for an 8:00 p.m. EST start and can be heard live on SportsRadio 1280 WHTK, whtk.com and AHL Live. The Amerks are 0-0-0-1 this season after falling short in a 3-2 shootout loss to the Wolves and are 5-3-3 all-time against the two-time Calder Cup champions.
The I Wireless Center is the next stop on Rochester's itinerary on Friday, February 13th as the Amerks attempt to extinguish the Quad City Flames for the second time this season. The Amerks earned their first win of the season with a 5-4 victory over the Flames on October 24th on home ice. Opening faceoff is set for 8:05 p.m. EST and will be carried live on SportsRadio 1280 WHTK, whtk.com and AHL Live. Rochester is 1-2-0 lifetime against the Calgary Flames' affiliate.
On Saturday, February 14th, Rochester has a Valentine's Day date with the Rockford IceHogs. The game will be the second in 10 days and last meeting of the season between the two teams as the Amerks look to rebound after suffering a 2-1 loss to the 'Hogs last Wednesday. Fans can tune into the 8:05 p.m. EST live broadcast on SportsRadio 1280 WHTK, whtk.com and AHL Live.
Rochester concludes its five-game trek across the state of Illinois on Sunday, February 15th as the Peoria Rivermen play host to the Amerks at Carver Arena. The 4:05 p.m. EST matinee will be the final game between both clubs this season with Peoria having the advantage in the season series after holding the Amerks scoreless in a 2-0 win in Rochester on December 12th. The contest will be broadcast live on SportsRadio 1280 WHTK, whtk.com and AHL Live.
Rochester (17-29-0-4, 38 points) enters the week after posting a 1-2-0-0 record last week at home to start their busiest month of the 2008-09 season. The Amerks began the week with a 2-1 loss to the Rockford IceHogs Wednesday night. Rookie forward Michal Repik netted Rochester's lone goal as second-year goaltender Tyler Plante made 31 saves in his first start for the Amerks since November 7th. The week would end the same as it started Sunday night as Rochester fell 2-1 to the San Antonio Rampage, with Repik again providing the only goal for the Amerks.
The Amerks' only victory of the weekend came Saturday afternoon in a 3-2 overtime win over the Binghamton Senators at The Blue Cross Arena. Rookie defenseman Jason Garrison netted the game-winner 2:24 into the extra frame to give the Amerks their first win against the B-Sens this season, snapping a brief two-game skid. It also marked the Amerks' first overtime triumph of the season after each of their previous trips to the extra session resulted in a shootout. Garrison and Amerks captain Rory Fitzpatrick also chipped in a pair of assists to help give Plante his first win of the campaign.
Repik, who has netted a goal in each of his last four games and has points in his last five, is tied for the team lead with 11 goals while his 25 points overall tie him with Garrison for the team lead. Garrison has a team best 21 assists and remains Rochester's top scoring defenseman.
Michael Duco is first on the team with 109 penalty minutes (PIM), with Tanner Glass a close second at 100 PIM. Goaltender Mike Brodeur, who has missed the last three games due to a minor injury, boasts a 13-5-2 record in 21 games for the Amerks. His 2.16 goals-against average and .931 save percentage currently rank him third among AHL netminders in both goaltending categories, respectively. Further, his two shutouts tie him for fifth in the league. Plante has started three straight games for the Amerks for this time this season.
The Amerks return home on Wednesday, February 18th to host the Grand Rapids Griffins at The Blue Cross Arena. The 7:05 p.m. contest will be broadcast live on SportsRadio 1280 WHTK, whtk.com and AHL Live. It's the Moose's Birthday! Perry's will provide ice cream for the occasion and the first 3,000 fans will receive goalie key chains, courtesy of Time Warner!
