Iowa Chops News Release
The Rochester Americans played an efficient, smart road game in Iowa Tuesday night and got 33 saves from Tyler Plante in a 4-1 win over the Chops that snapped Iowa's three-game winning streak. What started as a slower, more defensive game ended in a shooting frenzy, with both teams putting up their highest shot totals of the game in the third period (Rochester tallying 9 and Iowa 15). The Chops faced trouble following a penalty when Rochester's Shawn Matthias knocked in the first goal of the game on the powerplay, sending the Chops to the locker room down 1-0 after the first.
The second period, neither team managed to get the puck in the net during their respective advantages, however. The Chops came out in the third period ready to take the game, but it wasn't meant to be. Just 1 minute and 19 seconds into the 3rd, Petteri Wirtanen fed Eric Boguniecki a smooth pass from the faceoff dot, and Boguniecki let go a screamer past Rochester's Tyler Plante. With Boguniecki's shot, the Chops tallied their first and only goal, giving the Chops a much-needed spark. Although the Chops turned up their play, with 15 shots on goal in the 3rd alone, the Americans were able to get two tough goals by Levasseur, and ended the game with an empty-net goal by Karl Stewart with 2:11 to go.
The Chops will look to bounce back from tonight's loss with back-to-back games at home against the Houston Aeros on Friday, February 13th and Saturday, February 14th both at 7:05pm.
