Norfolk Admirals News Release

NORFOLK, VA - The Norfolk Admirals will conclude a five-game homestand this week at Scope after falling in three close contests last week.

On Wednesday night at Giant Center, Marc Denis made 28 saves but the Admirals fell to the Hershey Bears 2-1 as Hershey netminder Daren Machesney allowed only one goal on 30 shots. On Friday night at Scope, Justin Keller notched two assists but the Hartford Wolf Pack scored three first period goals to defeat the Admirals 4-2. On Saturday night at Scope, third period power play goals by Norm Milley and David Schneider drew Norfolk to within a goal of tying the game. However, they were unable to get the equalizer past Hartford goaltender Al Montoya as they fell to the Wolf Pack 3-2.

This week, the Admirals will continue a five-game homestand with three games at Scope. The Admirals will entertain Matt Keith and the Bridgeport Sound Tigers on Wednesday night. On Friday and Saturday, Dennis Bonvie and the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins will invade Scope. Game time for all Admirals home contests is 7:15 p.m.

ADMIRALS' LOG

- Admirals Alternate Captain Norm Milley is on a seven-game scoring streak (4-3-7) since December 29 at Hershey. The streak is tied for the longest of the season for the Admirals (Kyle Wanvig). He also has points in eight of his last nine games (5-4-9).

- Milley's three goals over the last four games have been scored on the power play. In his prior 34 games, none of his nine goals were power play goals, although he had seven assists with the man advantage.

- Admirals Captain Dan Jancevski is on a six-game scoring streak (2G, 6A) dating back to December 31 at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and has points in seven of his last eight games (2G, 8A) dating back to December 27 vs. Philadelphia.

- Jancevski also has assists in his previous five games (6A) to tie a season high assist streak (MacDonald and Wanvig).

- The Admirals out-shot their opponents in back-to-back games for just the second time this season this past Friday and Saturday against Hartford. The Admirals have not been out-shot in their last four games (three times out-shooting opponent and one time with shots even). Prior to the run, the Admirals had been out-shot in 27 of 36 games.

- Kyle Wanvig was selected as a Canadian AHL All-Star last week. Wanvig continues to lead the Admirals with 13 goals and 23 assists for 36 points in 33 games. He was recalled to the Admirals' NHL parent club, the Tampa Bay Lightning, earlier this month.

- Norfolk's games against Hartford last weekend were the first against non-East Division opponents since the Admirals hosted Springfield at Scope on November 23 and 24. The Admirals will not face another non-East Division team until February 22 and 23 at Manchester.

- Following Hershey's 2-1 win over the Admirals last Wednesday, Bears goaltender Daren Machesney has beaten the Admirals in the past six games played between the teams this season and has allowed one goal in each of the past five games between the clubs.

ADMIRALS RBK/AHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK NOMINEE

Norfolk captain Dan Jancevski continued his scoring ways with points in all three games the Admirals played this week. He assisted on Norfolk's only goal on Wednesday at Hershey. He picked up one power play assist on Friday vs. Hartford. He then registered two helpers on third period power play goals on Saturday vs. Hartford. The Admirals blueliner is now on a six-game scoring streak (2G, 6A) dating back to December 31 at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and has points in seven of his last eight games (2G, 8A) dating back to December 27 vs. Philadelphia. Jancevski also has assists in his previous five games (6A) to tie a season high assist streak (MacDonald and Wanvig).
