Milwaukee Admirals News Release
VS. ADMIRALS...Wednesday night marks the third ever meeting between the Milwaukee Admirals and the Norfolk Admirals as the two teams square off at The Scope in Norfolk, Virginia. Last season, Milwaukee captured a 7-3 win on December 7th and Norfolk held serve on home ice with a 3-2 win on January 23rd.
VS. WOLVES...This weekend's slate includes a home and home set with the archrival Chicago Wolves Friday and Saturday nights. Friday's game will be the first home game since Wednesday, November 20th. The Admirals own a 3-0-0-1 record through the first four games of the 12-game season series against Chicago. The lone blemish was a 7-6 overtime loss at the Bradley Center on November 3rd. The last twelve straight games between these two teams have ended in either a one or two-goal decision. The last "blowout" was a 5-1 Milwaukee win at the Allstate Arena on November 24, 2001. Overall, Milwaukee is 45-29-1-9 against the Wolves with a Bradley Center mark of 26-15-0-5 and a road record of 19-14-1-4. In the last eight games in Milwaukee, the Admirals are 5-2-0-1 and in the last eight games in Chicago, Milwaukee is 5-2-1-0.
VS. AEROS...Sunday, the Admirals and Houston Aeros meet for the second time. The game will be played at the Excel Center in St. Paul, Minnesota. The Aeros are the top developmental affiliate of the Minnesota Wild. The Admirals registered a 5-0 win over the Aeros in Houston on November 14th. Greg Koehler recorded the team's second hat trick of the season and Jan Lasak earned the teams' first shutout. It was the largest road shutout margin of victory in team history. All-time, Milwaukee is 21-15-0-5 against the Aeros. On the road vs. Houston, Milwaukee is 10-8-0-4. Although, the Admirals will miss playing this game in the Compaq Center, where the team is 7-2-0-1 in its last ten games, they do have a winning history in St. Paul. When the Manitoba Moose were the Minnesota Moose, the Admirals were 8-0-0-0 at the St. Paul Civic Center.
ROAD WARRIORS...The longest road trip of the year (7games) comes to an end at The Scope in Norfolk, Virginia Wednesday night. With their win over the Cleveland Barons on Saturday, Milwaukee is 1-3-1-1 through the first six games of the trip and are 5-5-3-1 overall on the road this season. The return from the road will be brief, with games in Chicago and St. Paul this weekend.
ROAD POWER...With two power play goals Saturday, the Admirals improved their road power play mark to 21.5% (2nd in the AHL) on 14 goals in 65 chances. Overall, the Admirals' power play ranks 7th at 18.3% (22/120).
DIVISION DYNAMOS...Through 12 games against West Division foes, Milwaukee is 8-2-1-1 and owns winning records against three of their four divisional opponents. The breakdown includes perfect marks against Utah (2-0-0-0) and Houston (1-0-0-0). The only losses have come to Chicago (3-0-0-1) and San Antonio (2-2-1-0).
DARREN TO BE GREAT...It was another sensational month of hockey for Admirals' rookie forward Darren Haydar. Despite missing four games due to injury, Haydar continues to place among the league's leading rookie scorers. He is currently third among rookies with 24 points (11g-13a). The league's top rookie in October also leads the league's rookies in goals scored (11), shooting percentage (27.5) and +/- (+12). He is also the team leader in scoring, goals scored, assists, +/-, multiple-point games (7) and game-winning goals (2). The former University of New Hampshire star earned at least one point in 13 of the 18 games he has played in this season.
CENTER OF ATTENTION...Center Greg Classen recorded his sixth multiple-point game Saturday @ Cleveland with two assists. Classen has scored in all six games on the current road trip (3g-5a=8pts). The former Merrimack College standout owns one of the team's two hat tricks (11/2 @ GR).
BALANCING ACT...Twenty-one different Admirals have scored the team's 75 goals this season. Pascal Trepanier was the latest to be added to that list with a goal in Hershey 11/23.
DOIN' 65 IN A 60...Saturday night's 5-4 overtime win over Cleveland was the team's second overtime win of the year and the 10th overtime session already this season. Milwaukee leads the league in overtime games played and in tie games. The team's record in overtime games is 2-2-6. When Peter Smrek scored the game-winner Saturday, it marked the first road overtime win for the Admirals since January 30, 1993 when Michel Mongeau scored to beat the Peoria Rivermen.
