The Flames enter the week ranked third in the Canadian Division with 18 points and a record of eight wins, ten losses, two ties and one overtime loss.

Saint John hosts Jason Spezza and the Binghamton Senators for back-to-back games on Friday and Saturday at Harbour Station.

THE OPPONENTS...

The BINGHAMTON SENATORS enter the week ranked third in the East Division with 23 points and a record of 10-9-2-1.

This week's games between Saint John and Binghamton will be the first and second of four this season.

Leading Binghamton into the week are defencemen Josef Boumedienne (2g-14a=16pts) and Brian Pothier (2g-13a=15pts), centre Steve Martins (4g- 9a=13pts), left wing David Hymovitz (8g-4a=12pts) and right wing Brad Smyth (7g-5a=12pts).

Boumedienne is tied for 8th in scoring and ranks 5th in assists among League defensemen.

Ray Emery and Simon Lajeunesse handle the netminding chores for Binghamton. Emery, 7th among League goaltenders, is 7-7-1 through 15 games with a 2.23 gaa and a .922 sv%. Lajeunesse is 2-1-0 in six games with a 3.34 gaa and an .878 sv%.

Jason Spezza, the Ottawa Senator's first choice, second overall, in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, was reassigned by Ottawa to Binghamton today. Spezza began the season with Binghamton, recording 6 points (3 goals, 3 assists) in four games before being recalled by Ottawa.

ROOKIE OF THE MONTH NOMINEE...

The Saint John Flames nominated centre Matt Lombardi for AHL Rookie of the Month honours for the month of November.

In November, Lombardi appeared in all fifteen Flames games scoring 6 goals and adding 8 assists for 14 points and 12 penalty minutes with a plus/minus rating of even. Lombardi recorded 4 multiple point games during the month, including back-to-back multi-goal games at Manitoba on November 22 and 23. Lombardi was voted a game star on 3 occasions during November and skated into December on a three game point streak.

Lombardi was Calgary's 3rd round selection, 90th overall, in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.

ALUMNI IN PROFILE...

On Sunday, December 1, former Flame Martin St. Louis, fresh off a 2-goal performance against the Vancouver Canucks on Friday, led his Tampa Bay Lightning into Madison Square Gardens to face-off against former Flame Ronald Petrovicky and the New York Rangers.

During the contest, St. Louis scored late in the game to give Tampa Bay a 3-2 lead, but New York rallied with goals 22 seconds apart from Pavel Bure to tie and Petrovicky for the win.

The Rangers swept the three stars selections with Petrovicky earning first star honours and his linemates, Pavel Bure and Peter Nedved, second and third respectively.

NOTABLES...

Flames forward Robert Dome is on a 3-game point streak with 2 goals and 2 assists for 4 points from November 27 – present. Dome, a member of the Wilkes-Barre Scranton/Penguins last season, capped of his week with 2 points (1 goal, 1 assist) and the first star selection in the Flames 2- 2 tie with the Penguins on Saturday.

Several Saint John Flames are currently on recall with the Calgary Flames in the NHL. Last week alone defenceman Micki DuPont (Nov. 27), Levente Szuper (Nov. 29) and Oleg Saprykin (Nov. 30) were recalled to the parent club.

The Flames recorded 40 or more shots in each of their games last week out-shooting their opponents by an average of just under 15 shots a game.

Saint John rookie Matthew Lombardi is ranked fourth among AHL rookies in scoring (10g-10a=20pts).

The Flames hosted the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins twice on the weekend and saw overtime action in both games. The Flames have gone to extra time on four occasions this season and sport a 2-1-1 overtime record.

McDONALD'S TEDDY BEAR TOSS...

The Flames game this Friday, December 6th, versus Binghamton is designated as McDonald's Teddy Bear Toss Night. All fans are encouraged to bring stuffed toys to the game to be thrown onto the ice after the Flames score their first goal.

All the stuffed toys will be collected by the D.A.R.E. kids and distributed by the United Way of Greater Saint John to local children in time for Christmas.
