December 2, 2002 - American Hockey League (AHL) News Release

Fourteen different players found the scoresheet, led by Sergei Varlamov with two goals and two assists, as Worcester drubbed Providence on Saturday night, 11-0. Greg Davis and John Pohl each scored twice, Phil Osaer made 27 saves for his first AHL shutout and the IceCats went a perfect 4-for-4 on the power play. The next day, Justin Papineau's league-leading 14th goal of the season was the difference as the 'Cats nipped the B's in the rematch, 3-2.

After squandering leads of 2-0, 3-2 and 4-3, Milwaukee got a goal from Peter Smrek with 71 seconds left in overtime to take a 5-4 decision in Cleveland on Saturday. Former Calder Cup champion Reid Simpson (1995) scored his fifth goal in six games for the Admirals, who snapped a seven-game winless skid. Milwaukee got a goal and two assists from Darren Haydar, while fellow rookie Niko Dimitrakos dished out three assists for the Barons.

Jean-Guy Trudel scored with 2:02 remaining in overtime as Houston gained a two-game series split at Scope with a 2-1 win over Norfolk on Saturday. Former Aeros forward Brett McLean scored Norfolk's only goal in Saturday's tilt, which came one night after Igor Radulov netted a hat trick to lift the Admirals to a 5-4 win on Friday. Norfolk still owns a three-point lead over Houston for the top spot in the AHL's Western Conference standings.

Down 3-0 after the first period, Bridgeport rallied to tie Hershey on Sunday, 3-3, extending their unbeaten streak to eight games (5-0-3). Justin Mapletoft scored the final two goals of the game, including the equalizer with 7:01 remaining in the third period, and Rick DiPietro finished with 32 saves to improve to 8-0-5 in his last 13 starts. Hershey dropped to 7-2-3-0 at the Giant Center.
