
Griffins Lose to San Antonio, 5-3

SAN ANTONIO, TX - The Grand Rapids Griffins (12-4-4-2) suffered their first regulation loss since October 24, as they lost 5-3 to the San Antonio Rampage (6-7-5-2) on Monday night at the SBC Center. The loss is also the first regulation loss for the Griffins on the road.
The Rampage scored the first goal of the game when Mike Green banked a shot from behind the goal line off of goaltender Joey MacDonald into the net 6:53 into the first period. Brendan Walsh picked up the assist on the play.
Michel Picard scored a goal in his third-straight game as he notched a power play marker at 8:48 of the opening frame from Patrick Boileau and Mark Mowers.
Stacy Roest gave the Griffins a 2-1 lead at 18:51 of the first period when he buried the rebound of his own shot. Bryan Adams assisted on the goal.
Green scored his second of the night 3:05 into the second period when his long wrist shot beat MacDonald. Jim Campbell, Griffins defenseman Ed Campbell's brother, earned the first of his three assists.
Campbell's second assist came at 9:02 of the second period when he assisted on Jeff Toms' power play goal, making the score 3-2. An awkward bounce off the boards went to Campbell, who slid it to Toms for a snap shot.
Marc Lamothe relieved MacDonald following the goal. MacDonald stopped 11 of the 14 shots he faced.
Roest evened the score at 3-3 when he placed a shot from the left wing face-off circle inside the far post. Adams assisted on the goal.
Campbell earned his third assist when former Griffin David Gove broke the tie when his shot slid under Lamothe's paddle, giving San Antonio a 4-3 lead at 2:47 of the third.
Juraj Kolnik added an insurance goal when he tucked his shot under the crossbar at 5:55 of the third period.
Chris Mason stopped 20 of 23 shots for the win in net for the Rampage, while Lamothe turned away 15 of 17 shots in a losing effort.
The Griffins finish their road trip with against the league-leading Houston Aeros on Wednesday night at 8:00 p.m.
