Adams' Two-Run Double in Eighth Pushes Frederick Past Winston-Salem

Like the first two games of this series, the Frederick Keys and the Winston-Salem Dash were tied up in the eighth inning on Saturday night. This time, the Keys scored three times in the bottom half of the eighth to beat Winston-Salem 8-5.

The Keys lineup jumped all over Winston-Salem RHP Anthony Carter in the first inning. With one on and one out, 3B Brandon Waring drilled a two-run opposite field homerun. Waring's 14th long ball of the season gave Frederick a 2-0 lead.

Frederick extended the lead in the second. The Keys loaded the bases with one man down. Waring lifted a sac fly to center field, knocking in a run, and extending the Frederick lead to three.

Winston-Salem got on the scoreboard in the top half of the third against Frederick starter LHP Nate Nery. Dash SS Greg Paiml led off the frame with a double. He eventually came around to score on 3B Brent Morel's RBI ground out to shortstop, making it 3-1.

In the bottom half of the third, Frederick tacked on a couple more run. With runners on second and third and two men down, C Billy Killian grounded a ball through the right side. Both runners scored to give the Keys a 5-1 lead.

The Dash tied the ball game up in the fourth. Winston-Salem loaded the bases with one out for 2B Dale Mollenhauer. The Carolina League All Star drilled a grand slam to right, his third homerun of the season, to tie the game at five.

Nery was removed during the fourth. He surrendered five earned runs in just 3.2 innings of work.

The Frederick bullpen held the tie. RHP Pat Egan made his Keys debut by tossing 3.1 shut out innings. Egan allowed just one hit while striking out two. LHP Ryan Rodriguez made his first Frederick appearance of the season as well. He pitched a scoreless eighth inning.

The Keys took the lead for good in the eighth. Frederick loaded the bases with one man down for 2B Ryan Adams. He hit a ground rule double to left-center field, knocking in two, and giving the Keys the lead. Waring hit a sac fly to right field to knock in a third run. It was Waring's fourth RBI of the ball game.

Rodriguez got the win, improving to 1-0. LHP Hector Santiago took the loss. He was charged with all three runs in the eighth inning, dropping his record to 2-1. RHP Luis Lebron pitched a scoreless ninth for his 11th save of the season.

The Keys open up a four-game series at home Sunday night against the Wilmington Blue Rocks. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 PM. LHP Rick Zagone will be on the hill for Frederick, making his Keys debut. It's Veterans Night at the stadium. All veterans and their families with military identification are eligible to purchase General Admission ticekts for just $5 each. It's also Sunday Fun Day at the ballpark.
