Aces Take Game 1

HARLINGEN, Texas-The Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings (7-7) had their three game winning streak snapped by the Alexandria Aces (7-7), 3-1, in the first game of a doubleheader at Harlingen Field Saturday night.

The game was deadlocked at 1-1, until the fifth inning when the Aces scored two runs, in the seven inning tilt.

Ace's second basemen Eddie Murray hit a one out single in the top of the first inning This opened the door for Nick Mahin who belted an RBI single, scoring Murray to give Alexandria the early 1-0 lead.

The WhiteWings answered back in the bottom of the first with a one out single from Thomas Shull.

Wings right fielder Aaron Gates hit his United League Baseball leading 16th RBI, scoring Shull from second as Gates slid into second for an RBI double, tying the ballgame at one run each.

Ace's Michael Haynes led the fifth inning off with a double followed by a walk by Eddie Muray, with two runners on and two outs in the inning, Derrick Pyles belted a two run RBI that gave the Aces a 3-1 lead, as Alexandria held on from there.

WhiteWings starting pitcher Bobby O'Neill (2-1) went five innings allowing eight hits and three runs in his first loss of the season.

ACES SWEEP DOUBLE HEADER

Harlingen, Texas- In game two of Saturday's double header WhiteWings starting pitcher Brett Kennedy went seven innings on five hits, this was a tough loss for Kennedy as all three runs were un earned as Alexandria (8-7) took game two beating Rio Grande Valley (7-8) 3-2 Saturday night at Harlingen Field.

Ace's starting first basemen Derrick Pyles led off the second inning with a sharp ground ball hit to Wings third basemen Kevin Lusson. Lusson was unable to field the ground ball allowing Pyles to reach first on the error.

One batter later Cameron Dulling was able to drive in Pyles from third on the sacrifice fly, giving Alexandria an early 1-0 advantage.

In the top of the third inning Austin Newell extended the Ace's lead by smashing an RBI double into the gap scoring Eddie Murray and Nick Mahin extending the lead 3-0. This would be enough offense as solid pitching from Alexandria sealed a 3-1 victory. The series finale is for 7:05 p.m. as Rio Grande Valley Sends Antony Bello to the mound.
