EDINBURG, Texas - The Edinburg Roadrunners used a late two out rally in the seventh inning to defeat the McAllen Thunder by a score 6-2 at Edinburg Baseball Stadium on Sunday evening.
The win for the Roadrunners (7-9) clinches their first series win of the season by taking three of the four games from McAllen.
The McAllen Thunder (7-9) got on the board in the first inning when Jacinto Cipriota received a walk with two outs and moved over to second base on Joseph Hicks single.
Mario Perez would hit an RBI single that scored Cipriota from second to make it 1-0 in favor of the Thunder.
The Roadrunners responded with a run of their own when Tomochika Tsuboi led off the inning with a triple and scored on an Agustin Septimo sacrifice fly to tie the game at one.
The teams traded zeros until the seventh inning when McAllen got on the board again when Jose Soledad hit an RBI single to regain the lead for the Thunder.
The Roadrunners responded with a five run seventh inning attack, which was culminated by a Tsuboi double that produced three runs in the process.
The losing pitcher for the Thunder was Steven Romero (2-1) which lasted six and two thirds innings while striking out eight and surrendering six earned runs.
Frank DeJiulio (1-1) earned the win for the Roadrunners going three innings while only giving up a run and striking out five hitters.
The Roadrunners will start a four game road trip to Harlingen, Texas to take on the Rio Grande Valley White Wings with the first pitch set for 7:05 pm at Harlingen Field.
The next home game for the Roadrunners will be on Friday, June 14 as they will host the RGV White Wings and it will be RGV CALA Thunder sticks Night where the first 1,000 fans thru the gates will receive a pair.
