Reno Aces News Release
WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif.-Zach Kroenke worked six scoreless frames, and the Reno bullpen followed suit Friday night, as the Aces blanked the Sacramento River Cats 2-0 in the series opener at Raley Field.
Reno took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a Konrad Schmidt sacrifice fly, and the club would never trail. The Aces added an insurance run in the ninth on an RBI triple for Ryan Wheeler to take a 2-0 lead that would stand up.
Kroenke (1-1) scattered three hits over six shutout innings with five strikeouts. Out of the Aces bullpen, Sam Demel and Jensen Lewis each earned a hold, before Bryan Woodall retired the only batter he faced in the ninth to secure his first-career Triple-A save.
River Cats starter Brad Peacock (1-1) took the hard-luck loss, allowing just one unearned run on one hit over six innings of work. Three Sacramento relievers combined to hold the Aces to one run on two hits over the game's final three frames.
The Aces managed just three hits on the night, with singles for Cody Ransom and Konrad Schmidt supplementing Wheeler's ninth-inning triple. With that extra-base hit in his final at-bat, Wheeler stretched his hitting streak to seven-consecutive games.
The series continues on Saturday night in West Sacramento. LHP Tom Layne (0-1, 7.36 ERA) toes the slab for Reno, while LHP Fabio Castro (0-0, 4.50 ERA) counters for the River Cats. First pitch at Raley Field is set for 7:05 p.m. PT, and all the action can be heard live on Fox Sports 630 AM.
Reno returns home to Aces Ballpark on Saturday, April 21 to kick-off a four-game series. Tickets are on-sale now at RenoAces.com, by calling (775) 334-7000 or by visiting the Aces Ballpark Ticket Office.
