Tucson Padres News Release

The Tucson Padres never trailed in Saturday's game in Salt Lake, beating the Bees 8-4. Sawyer Carroll hit an RBI single in the first inning and Brad Davis hit a long, two-run home run to left in the second. Salt Lake tried to chip away at the lead early but Tucson pitching was able to leave eight Bees runners on base in the first four innings. Leading by one run in the ninth, the Padres scored three insurance runs, capped off by Anthony Contreras' two-run double, his 500th professional hit.

The Padres bullpen was very strong Saturday, as Alex Hinshaw, Dale Thayer and Brad Boxberger each threw a scoreless outing. Boxberger was appearing in a game for the first time since his blown save Wednesday and was able to strike out Paul McAnulty to end the game after two Bees hit singles.

Blake Tekotte went 1-for-4 with a double, extending his team-high hitting streak to nine games. The Padres stole seven bases Saturday, including three by Everth Cabrera. Salt Lake pitchers walked 12 Padres in the game, tying a franchise record. Heavy rain fell in the third inning but play resumed uninterrupted.
